Iron class guide

Armour, Guard and Pierce.

Bastion

Iron Shardlings rose in the mountain islands of the Anvil Heights and in the ruins of the old cities. Armoured beasts, rams, armadillos and machine-like hounds of silver-blue crystal. Slow and stubborn.

Iron wins by not giving way. Bulwark takes damage off every attack, Guard pulls attacks and lane damage aimed at your ward through a neighbouring open lane onto the Guard Shardling, and Iron’s traps (Iron Gate, Spiked Wall) block attacks through empty lanes. When Iron does attack, Pierce carries the extra damage through to the enemy ward. Its spells strengthen your own side: Temper, Rally, Steel Plating, Repair. Iron also answers traps with Demolish.

How to play it

  • Cover open lanes. Guard and the gate traps make an empty lane safe, so you can hold four lanes with three Shardlings.
  • Stack Bulwark on one Shardling. Steel Plating adds Bulwark +1, and against small attackers a Bastion with Bulwark 4 hardly takes damage at all.
  • Use Pierce against blockers. Siegeram, Juggernaut and the other Pierce Shardlings turn a defending Shardling into a door to the ward.
  • Keep Demolish for trap decks. Against Mist it clears the way in one card.

Questions

What does Guard do?

If an enemy Shardling attacks your ward through an open lane next to a Guard Shardling, the attack hits the Guard Shardling instead. Lane damage from spells, Sparkstrike and Wildfire is caught the same way.

What is the difference between Bulwark and health?

Health is used up. Bulwark takes a fixed amount off every attack, again and again, so it is strongest against many small attackers.
