Root class guide

Healing, Thorns and tough Shardlings.

Elderstag

Root Shardlings grew where shards fell into the hanging forests of the Green Reach. Fawns, stags, hares and moss creatures of green crystal. They are patient, and they are hard to beat, because they mend.

Root wins by lasting. Its Shardlings have some of the highest health in the game, and three keywords keep them alive: Regrow heals at the end of your turn, Bloom heals the neighbours, Thorns hurts whoever attacks. Its spells add health or give life back to you (Renewal, Verdant Tide). Root is slow to deal damage. It holds the lanes until the opponent runs out of answers, then its big Shardlings break through.

How to play it

  • Place your healers in the middle. Bloom heals the Shardlings in the neighbouring lanes, so a Bloom Shardling in lane 2 or 3 covers two friends.
  • Make attacking expensive. Thorns punishes every attack, and Briar Patch and Snare Roots punish the attacker as well.
  • Evolve instead of replacing. A damaged Barkfawn that becomes a Branchbearer keeps its damage, but it gets the higher health and Regrow keeps working.
  • Do not wait too long to attack. Root heals well, but the opponent’s spells to your ward add up. Use the turns when the other side is empty.

Questions

Is Root good for beginners?

Yes. Root forgives mistakes because its Shardlings survive a bad trade, and the Root + Iron starter deck is the toughest wall in the game.

Which Root card has the most health?

Eldershell, the Legendary third stage of Pebbleshell, with 11 health. It also heals its neighbours with Bloom 2.
